Even though the name suggests healthier air, no studies have shown that air purifiers actually improve your health. Allergists do admit that they can alleviate symptoms associated with allergy and asthma, so if you purchase one for those reasons, watch out for those that add lung-damaging levels of ozone to the air, as some ozone generators have been shown to do. These air purifiers do not produce lung-damaging levels of ozone, because all are certified by Energy Star and therefore emit levels below the federal health standard of 50 ppb. They're also the most energy-efficient purifiers on Energy Star's list.
